The Washington State Need Grant is available to eligible students who do not have a high school diploma or GED, and meet the following conditions:
  • Enrolled in an eligible degree/certificate program as defined by the Financial Aid Office.
    • High school completion programs are not eligible.
    • Preparatory work required before starting a degree/certificate program is not eligible.
    • Certificates of Completion (COC) are not eligible.
  • Place into college level (100 level or above) math or English by taking the ACCUPLACER/LOEP Assessment Test, OR
  • Have completed six college level (100 level or above) credits that go towards your current degree program.
To apply for the State Need grant using Ability-To-Benefit, complete the following steps:
  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online,
  • Submit all other required documents by the deadline as indicated on our website. Funds are limited. Apply as early as possible.
  • Submit this form.
Eligibility to receive the State Need Grant is determined by information you put on the FAFSA, other documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office, and availability of funds. Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the school year.
